Welcome to the KDP Bulletin.

KDP will be hosting a Volunteer Recruitment and Community Group Showcase next Wednesday, 30th October at Mearns Academy Community Campus, Laurencekirk.  The doors will be open between 2.30pm – 4.30pm

We have a wide range of community groups attending and are looking forward to welcoming members of the community and students of the academy to learn about the variety of volunteering opportunities in our area, as well as to find out about the great work being done.

There are a small number of tables still available, so if your group would like to be involved contact Margo at margo@kdp.scot

The Scotmid Co-operative is offering small grants of up to £500 to assist and support community projects and initiatives throughout Scotland.

Last year Scotmid awarded grants totalling £235,000 to organisations ranging from parent and toddler groups to national campaigns. Funding is concentrated on the areas of:

  • +65 groups (age)
  • Active Lifestyles
  • Arts & Culture
  • Children/Youth
  • Community Group
  • Co-operative
  • Environment
  • Fair Trade
  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Social Inclusion

To be eligible for funding, applicants must be a group or individual acting for the wider benefit of the local Community; and live within the geographic boundaries of one of Scotmid Regional Committees. Applications can be submitted at any time.

AVA and the Scottish Recovery Network are hosting an online introduction to developing community-based peer support on Tuesday 29 October, 12:30-1:30.

Peer support is powerful. It’s a mutual relationship where people with shared experiences support each other especially as they move through challenging times.

The free 60- minute online session will explore:

  • Peer support and the positive role it plays in supporting mental health recovery and wellbeing
  • Top tips for developing community-based peer support  

It’s a great opportunity to connect with others interested in peer support as well as providing inspiration to kick start or enhance your planning and/or proposals for peer support activities. The session will draw on a range of examples of Peer Support in Action and resources which are free to access here.

UK charities, voluntary organisations, and schools can apply for grants to help children and adults suffering from severe learning difficulties and autism.

The Baily Thomas General Charitable Fund programme can be used to purchase equipment, support capital works as well and cover project and core costs. Previous grants have been used to support capital works for residential, nursing and respite care, and schools; employment schemes including woodwork, crafts, printing and horticulture; play schemes and play therapy schemes; day and social activities centres; support for families, including respite schemes; independent living schemes; support in the community schemes; and Snoezelen rooms.

The next deadline for applications seeking funding over £9,000 is the 1st December 2024. Applications for £9,000 and below can be submitted at any time.

The Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) October Bulletin is available here.


The Royal Society is accepting applications through its Partnership Grant scheme to enhance science teaching in primary and secondary schools by offering grants of up to £3,000 for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) projects.

These projects must be run at a primary or secondary school or college, collaborating with a professional scientist or engineer. Eligible applicants include any UK primary or secondary school teacher or a practicing scientist/engineer, provided that the students participating in the project are aged between 5 and 18.

Applicants are required to establish a partnership before initiating the application. The Partnership Grants scheme is an annual funding round. There is a two-stage application process. The application process opens in February each year and there are three possible submission deadlines. The next deadline for applications is the 29th November 2024.

The Community Food and Health Scotland bulletin regularly features a range of interesting articles and resources related to community food approaches, and is well worth reading and subscribing to.

To ensure more people have access to local sports, the Cash4Clubs grant programme is making grants of £2,000 available to support the sustainability of community sports clubs and organisations.

The programme offers community groups the opportunity to access unrestricted funding to improve facilities, buy new equipment, gain coaching qualifications and invest in the sustainability of their club.

Applicants must solely be delivering activities to adults (18+) to be eligible for funding. Costs that can be funded include:

  • venue hire including floodlights / heating
  • coaching costs
  • volunteer expenses
  • equipment
  • kit
  • marketing and communications
  • training and qualifications
  • insurances and affiliations

Applications are particularly welcomed from clubs targeting communities from deprived areas, as well as those using sport for other social purposes such as developing skills, reducing crime or addressing anti-social behaviour.

The fund will remain open until the 12th November 2024 but may close earlier if a large number of applications are received.

Inspiring Scotland are hosting a workshop on Marketing for Non-Profits and Charities in Aberdeen on Wednesday 30th October, between 9.30am and 12.30pm at SensationALL.

Delivered by TMD Chief Executive Christopher Graham, this workshop is designed to empower you to:

  1. Understand what a marketing strategy is, what it can achieve, and see how investment in marketing can propel you forward.
  2. Produce a marketing plan to help you achieve a goal.
  3. Gain an understanding of the different channels and resources required.

You can expect engaging sessions; practical insights; networking opportunities and Q&A Sessions.

Home Instead Charities awards grants of up to £1,500 to small, local registered charities and up to £500 to grassroots organisations for well-being events, activities or pastimes that prevent social isolation and loneliness amongst adults over 55.

Eligible projects may include regular events such as a cinema club, knitting group, or lunch club; one-off activities like a day trip or Christmas lunch; or other initiatives such as yoga classes or guest speaker sessions.

The Fund accepts applications four times a year, with the next window opening in October 2024. All applications submitted during this period will be processed and awarded in November.

Keep Scotland Beautiful are delivering free Community Litter Workshops starting in November 2024.

The 90-minute workshops are for adults (18+) (attending as individuals and/or representatives of community groups/ businesses) who are beginning their journey to tackle litter and littering behaviour in their community.  The workshops aim to provide participants with information and access to resources and support in tackling litter and littering behaviour.

The workshop focussed on Aberdeenshire will be held on Thursday 7th November, 2pm – 3.30pm.

The Way Forward for Families Partnership focuses on improving lives and outcomes for children, young people and families in Scotland who are affected by drugs and alcohol. It is funded by Corra Foundation and the Scottish Government, building on over 20 years of work through the Partnership Drugs Initiative.

Young people with lived experience of drugs and alcohol affecting their lives are at the heart of decision making for this fund. Their expertise helps ensure the money is spent on what will make a difference to the lives of families.

Applications from partnerships only, and must include a third-sector organisation as the lead applicant with one or more partners, one of which must be a public sector body. Partnerships can apply for funding of up to £250,000 over three years and must be match funded by a public sector partner.

Organisations interested in applying to the fund should contact them by emailing WFFP@corra.scot to arrange an initial discussion about your project.

The closing date for applications is 2pm on Thursday 28th November 2024.

Greenspace Aberdeenshire is funding community groups to increase free-to-pick fruits in public greenspaces, to support pollinators, beautify towns and villages and boost health and wellbeing.

  • 60 grants available – first come, first serve, subject to meeting criteria
  • Applications welcome from community groups, must be planted on Aberdeenshire Council or community-owned land in Aberdeenshire, with permission
  • Fruit trees and bushes from Scottish Heritage Fruit trees
