Welcome to the KDP Bulletin.
The Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund is an opportunity for communities to put forward projects that match local needs and priorities and will enable us to create a greener region. Residents are then invited to have the final say over which initiatives are funded through a public vote.
The Fund is now open with £333,333 available for Aberdeenshire. The application deadline is 4th September.

Earlier this year, we were delighted to tell you about the new KDP website. We will continue to develop the site and add information on a regular basis.

Grants of up to £50,000 are available from the Peter Harrison Foundation Active Lives Programme. The scheme aims to provide opportunities for sport and physical activity at a grassroots level that enable physically, mentally, socially or economically disadvantaged people to develop personal and life skills to fulfil their potential.
They fund applications for physical activity initiatives that:
- Offer high-impact, life-enhancing opportunities for those who live in the top 10% of areas of deprivation
- Remove barriers to participation for disabled or disadvantaged people
- Focus on grassroots involvement rather than elite participation in physical activity
- Focus on skills development and confidence building for individuals
- Incorporate effective strategies for wider impact, perhaps through training, partnerships and/or dissemination activities
- Demonstrate a high degree of involvement across the organisation from beneficiaries and those with lived experience
- Have a well-developed plan for sustainability and seek to deliver a legacy
- Reflect our values: Excellence, Entrepreneurship, Integrity, Sustainability

The ‘Platinum Jubilee Coastal Path’, as a legacy tribute to her late Majesty, is the provisional name for a coastal path along the entire coastline of Aberdeenshire.
The Tangleha Artists Collective has been tasked with the development of a coastal path from the River North Esk to the southern edge of Aberdeen City limits at Cove.
In time, it is envisaged that this ‘Kincardineshire’ section will join up with paths around the City of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Banffshire.

If yo would like to get involved, a volunteer day will take place on Saturday the 21st of September. Meeting at the south end of Johnshaven on West Street at 11am and heading South to Cove Hill. Drainage channels will be cleared, some new ones added and willow coppiced. Tools will be provided. Bring your own gloves and refreshments.

The Volant Charitable Trust’s Grants programme has re-opened for applications. The fund aims to support Scottish charities and projects that help alleviate social deprivation, particularly among women, children and young people at risk. Registered charities, community interest companies, community organisations and social enterprises can apply for grants of up to £15,000 per year for up to three years to support work that will make a lasting difference for women and children affected by hardship or disadvantage.
Foundation Scotland administers funding and can be used for project and core costs. It is a two-stage application process, and the deadline for submitting a stage 1 application is the 1st of October 2024.

In conjunction with Historic Environment Scotland, Scotland’s Town Partnership is hosting a Historic Environment Scotland webinar – Improving Place Through Heritage.
Our historic environment is a national asset: it creates jobs, enriches our communities, and helps to tell Scotland’s story to the world. At a local level it creates the unique identity of a place, can support the visitor economy and contribute positively to residents’ wellbeing.
This online session will provide an overview of the sector strategy for the Historic Environment, Our Past our Future, as well as highlighting some key resources, including funding, available to support you in your plans to consider how heritage can improve your local places. The session will conclude with an opportunity for questions and to enable you to share your thoughts on what is needed to meet the ambitions for the historic environment in your area.

The Cycle Access Fund is getting more people in Scotland cycling by providing grants for bikes and equipment
The Cycle Access Fund supports those least likely to have access to a bike and provides capital grants to organisations through four different funding strands:
- Individual Bike Ownership
- Shared Use
- Recycle
- Repair
It allows a wide range of organisations to apply and provides a variety of opportunities for individuals to benefit from the fund. There is no limit to the number of strands organisations can apply to.
This fund is now open and will close once funds are allocated, so best to apply early.

Business Gateway offers a plethora of free webinars, events and online tutorials to tackle topics from bookkeeping and finance, writing a business plan, e-commerce, social media, marketing on a budget, to video production for digital platforms and more.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to local charities and not-for-profit organisations for projects that will fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and community facilities for those in need in the UK. The funding is being made available through the Screwfix Foundation, and the grants are available for all kinds of projects, from repairing buildings and improving facilities in deprived areas to decorating the homes of people living with sickness and disabilities.
Applications are reviewed every quarter. The next closing date for applications is the 10th November 2024.
